Developing a Tongva-led Archive for the Kuruvungna Springs Collection

The primary goal for my Mellon Public Scholars Summer project was to collaborate with the Gabrielino Tongva Springs Foundation and  Tribal Elders to inventory, categorize, and archive the Kuruvungna Springs collection, which includes documents,  artifacts, and possible funerary objects. Due to my community partner testing positive for Covid-19, I switched my project to creating a digital archive on Mukurtu where the tribe still maintains data sovereignty over all of the scanned documents. Mukurtu is a free online community archive platform designed specifically for Indigenous communities.
