Samara Hayley Steele, 2020 MPS Showcase

In this slideshow, Samara Hayley Steele, MFA, discusses parts of her work on her Mellon Public Scholars project “Beyond Colonial Ecocide: Strategies for Centering Indigenous Voices in Climate Media.”  Her work for this project included curriculum development, strategic PR work, and the formation of strategic alliances towards building Indigeous-led and Indigenous-centering media on climate change and ecocide.

The Superweaver Manifesto, which was created as part of this project, may be viewed here. Community partnerships for this project have included Indigenous PopX, the First Alaskans Network, and the Indigenous Futures Collective. Steele’s Faculty Mentor for this project was Dr. LM Bogad.
