Full Spectrum: Queer Religious Histories Writing Workshop
Amanda Hawkins’ creative project was to offer a space for LGBTQIA+ people to write into their religious histories through a series of writing workshops. As a queer poet whose loss of faith was a deep grief in her life, Hawkins found it very challenging to write about her faith story when she came out mid-life. “Full Spectrum” was meant to reach people who also might not feel comfortable talking and writing about their spiritual experiences and trauma in a religious setting. In collaboration with The Sacramento LGBT Community Center—who hosts other longstanding groups—Hawkins offered a seven week writing workshop to fill this need.
