Home Style Cooking: Connecting Past and Present in San Francisco Chinatown
“Home Style Cooking: A Project Connecting Past and Present in San Francisco Chinatown” is a digital map that combines archival research, oral histories, and community engagement with the Davis Chinese Cookbook Special Collection and the Chinese Historical Society of America (CHSA). The project shares food cultures in Chinatown through oral histories, pictures, recipes, and materials of Chinatown residents, restaurant owners, community groups, and cultural institutions. Through a multimedia digital map in ArcGIS Storymaps of San Francisco Chinatown, viewers have the freedom to digitally engage with the parts of Chinatown they are familiar with or interested in.
