Racialized Policing in Sacramento, 1850-1870
David Morales is a second-year PhD student in the History Department at UC Davis. He worked in the summer of 2021 with the Center for Sacramento History to consider how race intersected with policing in the wake of the California Gold Rush in Sacramento. Using mug books, jail registers, and court records, he generated quantitative data on arrest rates, conviction rates, and sentencing statistics among various racial demographics
