Participatory Journalism with CapRadio
For my Mellon Public Scholars project, I worked with CapRadio’s participatory journalism department on two different projects. In collaboration with a project evaluator, I tracked meaningful impacts made during and after CapRadio’s three year community engaged journalism series entitled “After the Assault.” Through this work I learned about how qualitative evaluation can help preserve the nuances of change that occur during long, emotionally and logistically complex projects. Throughout the summer I also worked with another graduate student and jesikah maria ross to develop the initial stages of a participatory journalism project in North Sacramento. We developed interview protocols, called dozens of residents, and compiled an extensive report for journalists to use as a reference for future reporting.
